The forum is intended for the discussion of the valuation methods described in the Guide for Plant Appraisal, Ninth Edition (published by the International Society of Arboriculture, Champaign, Illinois, USA) and specifically, its application to the UK. Produced by the Council of Tree and Landscape Appraisers in America, this publication is intended to provide the professional plant appraiser with information to properly determine the size, species, condition, and location factors that influence the value of plants - their depreciated replacement value.

It can be widely used for the valuation of plant casualties, insurance purposes, real estate transactions, plant condemnation actions, and tree inventories. However, the relative weight given to the above descriptive factors may need some anglicising if the method is to gain universal credence - certain tree defects for instance, may not carry the same weight in the UK and there may be less significance attributable to aesthetic form. We hope that this forum will provide a suitable vehicle for that process of adaptation.
